DSL

If you have had DSL / High speed internet access, installed on the telephone line that your alarm system uses, you must contact us to install a special filter which will ensure that your alarm system continues to operate properly.  This filter is not the same as the filters you may have received from your internet service provider.  Contact us for details.

Voice over IP telephone service (example: Vonage)

VoIP is a technology which uses your broadband internet service to provide telephone service.  One of the most common providers of this service is Vonage.  If you obtain this service please contact us to ensure that your alarm communications continue to function.  We may have to schedule a service call to verify that the alarm system continues to communicate properly.  Please remember that unlike your old telephone service, VoIP usually has no power in the event of an electrical power outage in your home.  In many cases, the alarm system will immediately show a "Trouble" condition to indicate that power is out and that it has no means of communications.  Check our discussion regarding VoIP and alarm systems.

Testing your System

You should test your system periodically to verify that is is communicating properly with the monitoring station.  We recommend monthly or bi-monthly.

  • Call the monitoring center at the telephone number you have been provided.
  • Give them your name and password and tell them that you would like to test your system.
  • Wait for them to verify that your system is on "Test".
  • Activate any or all features of your alarm system.
  • Call the monitoring center to verify that they have received all signals.
  • Call us for service if there is any problem.

Battery Replacement

The emergency battery in your alarm system is much like the battery in your car.  It is recharged continually by the alarm system but after a period of time, it will no longer charge.  At that time it will display an audible and visual "Trouble" signal on your alarm system and must be replaced.

We recommend that it be replaced after three years of use.  It may last considerably longer, but problems always occur in the middle of the night.  We will schedule service to replace the battery and check the functioning of the charging system or you may obtain a new one at your favorite store and replace it yourself.

Call us for information on battery sizes, type or replacement instructions or to schedule service to replace it.
